Osama Bin Laden (1957-2011)
Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden was the founder and first general emir of al-Qaeda. Ideologically a pan-Islamist and Islamic extremist, bin Laden organized numerous terrorist attacks worldwide, like the September 11 attacks (9/11) in 2001, which killed 2,977 victims. He also supported the Afghan mujahideen fighting the Soviet Union in the Soviet–Afghan War (1979–1989), and the Bosnian mujahideen fighting Serb and Croat forces in the Bosnian War (1992–1995). Furthermore, he played a role in starting the Algerian Civil War (1992–2002).
